How to review your loan
A step-by-step way to understand what your loan really costs and what you can do about it.
Start with the latest statement
Your statement shows the outstanding principal, current rate and remaining instalments. Those three numbers drive everything else.
If your balance is estimated from the original schedule, prepayments or rate changes won't be reflected — the statement is the source of truth.
Look at what's left, not what's gone
Remaining interest is the money you can still influence. Early in a long loan, most of each EMI is interest, so small changes now have large effects.
Compare the principal and interest share of your remaining payments.
Explore scenarios
A lower rate, a part-prepayment or a shorter tenure all change the total interest. Keeping the EMI the same and shortening the tenure usually saves the most.
Scenarios are illustrations — only your lender can change your rate.
Decide what to ask
Common questions: is a rate revision possible and at what fee? Are there prepayment charges? Can I move to an external benchmark? Ask in writing and keep the replies.
